By yours truly, I present an exercise thingy from “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain” by Betty Edwards.

The Graduate

A scene from one of my favourite films ever made: “The Graduate”.

Hope ya like it.

I would personally love to see the artist that did the covers to tLoLL & RSURS do the cover in a similar style, but that being said, I think this cover is absolutely gorgeous. It’s evocative, stylish, &  intricate, and should have a broader fantasy appeal than the previous covers did.

After their adventures on the high seas, Locke and Jean are brought back to earth with a thump. Jean is mourning the loss of his lover and Locke must live with the fallout of crossing the all-powerful magical assassins the Bonds Magi. It is a fall-out that will pit both men against Locke’s own long lost love. Sabetha is Locke’s childhood sweetheart, the love of Locke’s life and now it is time for them to meet again. Employed on different sides of a vicious dispute between factions of the Bonds Sabetha has just one goal – to destroy Locke for ever. The Gentleman Bastard sequence has become a literary sensation in fantasy circles and now, with the third book, Scott Lynch is set to seal that success.

The rumored release date for this is early 2011, most likely February or March.

(Via Pat’s Fantasy Hotlist, who had it from James at Speculative Horizons)

This is a scene from one of my favourite films ever, “Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid”. If you haven’t seen it already, then don’t let my poor sketch put you off it 🙂

By request, I’ve made a painting of Saruman vs. Count Dooku, or Christopher Lee vs. Christopher Lee as it’s also known.

Anyway, this is how it turned out (and yes, I’m also disappointed about the lack of “light-saber on wizard staff”-action, but it’s late and I can’t be bothered to figure out the poses).

This movie was so bad that I can’t muster the will to give it the hiding it deserves. Instead, I’ll post this thing I threw together after I made the Wall-E sketch. The man featured is (supposedly) Ben Kingsly, who plays Jake Gyllenhaal’s uncle in the movie. I wish I could say that he was the best thing about Prince of Persia, but frankly, that’s being too kind, since I strongly believe that no-one & nothing could claim that dubious honour.

Oh well.

I did this with a new program called “Sketchpro”, which – so far – seems to retain the simplicity of Paint combined with a few more nifty options to toy with.

Like it? Hate it?

Anyway, next post will probably be a review of Prince of Persia, which I’m seeing tonight.
